Thank you for your service

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE ~ Rated R – 1 hr. 48 mins.

Starring Miles Teller, Amy Schumer, Haley Bennett, Beulah Koale, Scott Haze, Omar J Dorsey, Keisha Castle-Hughes, and Jason Warner Smith

Based on the book by Pulitzer prize winning journalist David Finkel, and brought to life by Writer (American Sniper) and Director Jason Hall, we meet soldier Adam Schuman (Miles Teller), returning from the Iraqi war, along with comrade Solo (Beulah Koale), and a few more of his platoon, trying to acclimate back into civilian society…

As the war has taken its toll on these soldiers both physically, and mentally too, Schuman finds that even starting over with his beautiful wife Saskia (Haley Bennett), and their adorable young children, isn’t stopping the flashbacks, or the anguish he still feels from the lives he couldn’t save along the way…

When Solo seems to be on an even worse collision course in dealing with the aftermath of war than Schuman, Schuman decides that its time for them both seek out help at the local Veterans administration, who they are in hopes will direct them to the specialists they need…to set their minds free…

But the bureaucracy of this federal institution seems to go on forever, getting neither of them any closer to the help both they, and their families need…

As the flashbacks and anger seem to boil over more and more with each passing day, Solo has found a substance that will ease his mind, but that comes with a very heavy price, and apparently a new way of life, that he never thought he would become a part of…

As Schuman sets forth to seek out a fellow comrade that he feels he affected negatively along the way, and Solo finds himself on a collision course with his new chosen “way of life”, it seems that our valiant serviceman are falling deeper and deeper into despair…as they continue to wait for the treatment they both so desperately need…but somehow within our system…isn’t coming to their aid near fast enough…

I give THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE a rating of MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN ~ Academy Award Nominated Writer and First-time Director Jason Hall has managed to create an incredibly moving film, that not only conveys the true-life torment and turmoil that our veterans face while at war, but the even bigger battles that they seem to face, once they have returned home. Teller gives an outstanding performance as Schuman, giving us a glimpse into the pain and agony of returning home from war ~ trying to start over ~ but not really knowing how to get there with all the aftermath that comes with PTSD. Koale also gives an incredibly touching and oh’ so real performance too as Solo, giving us an ever deeper view into the pain and struggle of those afflicted with PTSD, and how it not only affects the soldier, but ultimately their families as well. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE also brings to light some of the issues that our soldiers face in getting the help they desperately need, and the red-tape that seems to go on forever within our Veterans Administration. I’m hoping that these biographical images that Hall has created can exemplify what our servicemen endure for the freedoms we all get to experience, while appealing to our Administration to fix the problems that exist, in getting our soldiers the help they not only need, but deserve! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE Is one of those films THAT EVERYONE SHOULD EXPERIENCE, as it brings an increased vision and awareness to those of us who have never served, while showing our veterans, active military, and their families too, that Hall has given “their stories” a voice, allowing for a glimpse into the pain that is endured by our veterans, and their families, along with the pain that they continue to endure, at the hands of our own government’s bureaucracy…

ONLY THE BRAVE – Rated PG-13 – 2 hrs. 13 mins.

Only-the-Brave

“Do you want to talk about it…or do you want to do your John Wayne thing?…”

ONLY THE BRAVE – Rated PG-13 – 2 hrs. 13 mins.

“Grippingly powerful and moving…ONLY THE BRAVE is a true testament to the lives of these exceptional men…” Kathy Kaiser – Matinee Chat

Starring Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges, Jennifer Connelly, James Badge Dale and Andie MacDowell

Director Joseph Kosinski (TRON: Legacy, OBLIVION) takes on the elements and the true-life story of these elite firefighters, the Granite Mountain Hot Shots, showcasing their lives and their commitment to save land and homes from annihilation from the wildfires that take grip of the western part of this nation…THIS IS, ONLY THE BRAVE!

Cocky and bullheaded, but with a heart of gold, we meet Supervisor Eric Marsh (Josh Brolin), leading his training group of firefighters into the wilderness. As his team struggles to become Elite firefighters known as “HOT SHOTS”, Marsh decides to take on a few rookies to complete his team, including “total mess up” Brendan McDonough (Miles Teller).

As they work for years trying to convince the feds that they are the “best of the best”, friend and colleague Duane Steinbrink (Jeff Bridges) calls in a favor, getting these guys the assessment they need to be branded ELITE. And, as luck would have it, even the youngsters of the group pull it together to prove that they are all worthy of this elite distinction they crave.

As the newly founded Granite Mountain Hot Shot team takes on blaze after blaze, they are called up to work a large wildfire taking over mass amounts of land in the ranching community of Yarnell Hill. Now, its up the this team, and the many other elite groups of Hot Shots that have been called in, to try to save this land, and its inhabitants from peril…

As our team settles in on Yarnell Hill to take on this massive blaze, extremely hot conditions, and a massive storm surge changes its direction, turning it into an inferno that now rages out of control…and which has now surrounded these men, leaving 19 of them fighting for their own lives…

I give ONLY THE BRAVE a rating of MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN ~ Powerfully moving with each passing frame, ONY THE BRAVE is one of those films that draws you in, and doesn’t let go. From its gripping true-life storyline of the loss of life for this elite team of firefighters, to the incredible cinematography of the beautiful western landscape of our nation, ONLY THE BRAVE is one of those films that highlights the beauty of our world, and the beauty and frailty of humanity, all at the same time! Brolin’s performance is spot on as the brash, and rough and tough leader of this elite group of firefighters. Bridges performance is good too, as the friend and confidant that aids in these men achieving their elite status. Teller’s performance is exceptional, as the young outcast of the group, working his way through his own poor decisions in life, and through no fault of his own, becoming the only survivor of this great tragedy, as the Yarnell Hill Fire claims the lives of the other 19 “brothers” of his team. But, Jennifer Connelly’s performance this time around is the most gripping of all, as she truly brings it to her performance in this film, and leaves it on the screen. Make no mistake about it, ONLY THE BRAVE is a touching, real-life drama that brings to light the commitment and dedication these elite firefighters give to their profession, and their mission, while also shedding light on the how their families pay for their commitment, every step of the way. And the release of this film is very apropos too it seems, as the wild fires in California are slowly being wrangled under control, but only after taking thousands of acres of land, and many peoples homes, their livelihoods, and sadly their lives as well.

If there is only one film you head out to the theater near you this weekend to see, make it ONLY THE BRAVE ~ as this tribute to these 19 brave and courageous men should be viewed by everyone in this country on the big screen at least once!

BLEED FOR THIS – Rated R – 1hr 56 min

Starring Miles Teller, Aaron Eckhart and Katey Sagal

Vinny Pazienza, played by Miles Teller, is a boxer at the top of his prime. He has everything he would ever want until disaster strikes,  when he is involved in a serious accident that brings his boxing career to a screeching halt.  When Vinny is told he’ll never box again, that’s not good enough for him.  Vinny’s perseverance and true drive, for the love of his sport, is put to the test.

I give this film a MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN. Being a Miles Teller and sports fan, I had high hopes for this film. Miles and the cast made this film live up to all my expectations. With great cinematography and a good crew, you are brought along on this story of true perseverance. If you are a fan of sports or true stories this is definitely a movie for you.

WAR DOGS – Rated R

Starring Miles Teller, Jonah Hill and Bradley Cooper

Writer/Producer & Director Todd Phillips – the man who brought us such comedic films as OLD SCHOOL, DUE DATE and all the HANGOVER movies ~ decides to go TRUE STORY on us this time around, as we venture into the lives of 20 something US military arms dealers David Packouz and Efraim Diveroli – SAY WHAT? – This is WAR DOGS!!

Making his way through life as a massage therapist and bed sheet salesman, young entrepreneur David Packouz (Miles Teller) isn’t quite too happy, or content with where his life is headed thus far. When old pal Efraim Diveroli (Jonah Hill) comes back into David’s life, it seems that Efraim has got his life on a string, as he is dealing in government contracts, and making major bank in the process!

Happy to be a part of each other’s lives again, Packouz decides to partner with Diveroli in his new business ventures, as with a baby on the way, he needs to make some cash, and fast!

Learning the ropes of Government contracting and arms sales, Packouz is making his way to mega bucks, right along with Diveroli, on the shirt tales of our federal government, faster than you can say Iraqi War…

When our youngsters decide to go after an even larger military arms contract than they have previously, it seems that this large of a contract is realistically totally out of their reach…or is it???

Enter arms dealer and “terrorist watch list” businessman Henry Girard to help our boys secure THE BIG DEAL, as he has ways of circumventing lots of countries policies and procedures, allowing our boys to come in as the lowest bidder on these contracts by far.

As Pachouz heads overseas to secure the ammunition needed for this contract, Diveroli is back in the states, holding down the fort, and every prostitute he can hire too.

Feeling abandoned and discontent on how this whole deal is shaking out, Packouz decides that maybe he isn’t cut out for the world of government military contracting after all, as he tries to find a way out the crazy world of arms dealing, before its too late…

I give WAR DOGS a rating of MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN – Knowing going in that this is a true story, was a little disheartening to begin with…I mean, how could two twenty-something guys manage to get government contracts to arm our military, and more than once mind you…but as you see the whole thing play out on screen, you become very quickly intrigued and definitely wanting to know more. Teller is FANTASTIC as the mild-mannered Packouz, wanting to make his way to financial freedom as fast as possible, in order to take care of his girlfriend, and beautiful baby girl …and Hill is absolutely SUPERB too, as the mastermind and douchebag Diveroli – as he plays good friend one minute and total a-hole the next with an ease and arrogance all his own. You will be utterly amazed at how easy it was for these guys to deal with our federal government – and to make big bucks in the process ~ off of us tax payers mind you ~ as their story unfolds. And know going in too, that this film doesn’t leave the best light on Bush and Cheney’s time in office either.so if they were your boys, you might want to sit this out, I’m just warning you. And the best part for me with WAR DOGS, was that this film takes so many twists and turns that you aren’t exposed to in the trailer, that it made me love the unexpected feeling of this film and the non-disclosed storyline even more, as sometimes you find that the unknown can be pretty gratifying, when its all said and done.

With promise and conspiracy at every turn, Tris, Four and the entire crew are about to encounter what David’s true intensions are FOR THEM ALL…and the place that they call HOME!!

I give THE DIVERGENT SERIES: ALLEGIANT Part 1 a rating of WAIT AND CATCH THIS ONE ON DVD ~ Even though this film is better than the last film in the series ~ not too much about it really blew me away. Woodley’s portrayal is exactly what we have experienced from her before – numerous times, but James’s character is more present this time around – aiding his one true love every step of the way. Plus Kravitz and Elgort are seemingly okay in their respective roles as well. The surprise for me is the character flaw that becomes apparent with Teller’s role, which I actually wasn’t expecting…and Daniels popping up as the MAN OF POWER with ulterior motives seems to work in his favor too. We know going in that everyone who has read the books or who has experienced the previous films is going to be flocking to the theaters to catch this next installment, but if you aren’t one of those movie goers, then I think you are safe to wait this one out and catch it on DVD in the comfort of your very own home…
