CAPTAIN FANTASTIC – Rated R – 1 hr. 58 min.
Starring Viggo Mortensen, George McKay, Catherine Hahn, Steve Zahn, and Frank Langella
From Actor, Writer, Director Matt Ross comes a very thought provoking film about family, love, life and the outside world…this is CAPTAIN FANTASTIC!!!
Raising his 6 children in the wilderness of the Great Pacific Northwest, we meet Ben (Viggo Mortensen), who is strict, yet loving, as he teaches his children “the ways of HIS world”.
With the absence of their mother, due to her returning home for medical attention, the children are going about their lives in the shelter of their wilderness, some of them never having been exposed to what lies beyond these trees.
When Ben and his children must return to the REAL WORLD, it rocks not only Ben to his knees, but his kids too, as even though they are smarter and more physically fit than anyone else they are encountering, they can’t quite seem to relate in our very materialistic and social society…
I give CAPTAIN FANTASTIC a rating of MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN ~ this movie was nothing but SHEER ENJOYMENT for me from beginning to end. I love a film that is thought provoking, beautifully written and visually appealing, and CAPTAIN FANTASTIC has it all. From Mortensen’s Oscar-worthy performance, to the fabulous performances from all his children ~including McKay, Samantha Isler, Annalise Basso, Nicholas Hamilton, Schree Crooks and Charlie Shotwell – from the oldest to the youngest – these youngsters were incredible at bringing you into their lives with so much feeling and conviction. You will be so absolutely captivated by each passing frame of this film! Langella and Ann Dowd are fabulous too, as the grandparents who only want what they think is best for their grandchildren, even though their father does not agree! I think anyone who has ever questioned their parenting skills, or questioned the educational choices they have made on behalf of their children, or anyone who has questioned any aspect of life in general ~ should run out to a theater near you this weekend and catch CAPTAIN FANTASTIC – as this film is one of the best I’ve seen, by far, in all of 2016!!!
