“SPIDERMAN: FAR FROM HOME is definitely a MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN…but not a second before you make a point to see AVENGERS: ENDGAME, as you have to see these two films in sequence, and no other way!

Kathy Kaiser, /She Said He Said Show on AM 590 THE FAN – KFNS

SPIDERMAN:  FAR FROM HOME – Rated PG-13 – 2 hrs. 9 mins.

DIRECTOR:  Jon Watts (Spiderman: Homecoming)

WRITERS:  Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers

STARRING:  Tom Holland, Zendaya,  Jake Gyllenhaal, Jon Favreau, Samuel L. Jackson, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon, Colbie Smulders and J.K. Simmons

What a wicked web we weave as we are all still reeling from the fallout from Avengers: Endgame ~ including Spiderman himself, Peter Parker (Tom Holland).  As he tries to put his web slinging on the back burner for a while, it seems that Peter is ready to refocus his attention back to real-life, and his continued crush on the girl of his dreams, MJ (Zendaya).

While Peter and his bff Ned (Jacob Batalon) try to figure out a way to let MJ know of Peter’s feelings ~  it seems that their class trip to Europe, a chance encounter with new Superhero Mysterio, aka Quintin Beck (Jake Gyllenhaal), and the reappearance of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) are all about to impose upon his time too ~ and it appears it may be quite some time till Peter can focus on his love life ~ and not being our favorite web-spinning Superhero…

I give SPIDERMAN: FAR FROM HOME a rating of MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN:  With this film arriving only months after the Marvel-altering events that took place in Avengers: Endgame, I must say, I wasn’t too excited to move on so quickly, as I was still reeling from that conclusion.  But, much to my surprise, Director Jon Watts manages to not only entertain you every step of the way, but to bring another gem to the Marvel Universe with his latest addition to the Spidey Universe.  To my astonishment from the beginning, SPIDERMAN:  FAR FROM HOME turned out to be exceptionally entertaining, as Holland managed to cement himself in my mind as “the best Spiderman yet” – sorry Andrew ;(  I’m not sure if it’s his younger persona, or the particular puppy dog storyline this time around, or if it’s just the fact that my favorite Avenger EVER ~ Iron Man ~loved this kid so much…whatever it is, it really doesn’t matter, just know that Hollands performance is absolutely superb every step of the way.  Watts also manages to garner incredible performances too from Gyllenhaal, Favreau, Jackson, Zendaya …heck, even Marisa Tomei’s short, but sweet interjections into this film add to Spiderman: Far From Home’s ultimate appeal.  This film is strewn with the perfect combination of intrigue, love story, and Super-heroness, plus tons of humor at every turn as well, thus making it the MUST-SEE FILM of the week!

Whatever it takes…See the year’s #1 movie on the big screen one more time before it leaves theaters! AVENGERS:  END GAME – Rated PG-13 – 3 hrs. 1 min. –

DIRECTORS: Antony Russo, Joe Russo

WRITERS:  Christopher Markus, Stephen McFeely

Based on the writing of Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Jim Starlin

STARRING:  Robert Downey Jr, Brie Larson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, and so on, and so on…

The End is upon us and how sweet, and emotionally draining it is…

For me, from the minute Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) hit the big screen, my evolution into the Marvel Universe had begun.  I was drawn in not only from the hotness he exuded in 2008, but by my intense infatuation with a real SUPER HERO – whose brains were just as valuable as his brawn, as his ever expanding ingenuity forges a way for him to become my favorite, IRON MAN, thus, thrusting me into the grasp of the almighty Marvel Universe.  And then just to make sure that I wasn’t going anywhere, MCU brings the brave, valiant and no longer frozen in time CAPTAIN AMERICA (Chris Evans) onto the scene, solidifying the destiny of MARVEL, not only for me, but for everyone else fortunate enough to experience what the MCU had in store, as we have followed these two, and so many more beloved Marvel Superheroes literally anywhere they would take us.

And now, 22 films later, the much-awaited AVENGERS: END GAME has finally arrived, and, as I totally expected, they have saved The Best for Last.

Writers Christopher Marcus and Stephen McFeely bring to the table some very personal, and intertwined storylines for this film, as they have unmistakably found a way to make us adore these characters, each and every one of them, even more than we have before.

And what makes this final entry an even more exciting and intense journey too, is the fact that each of our favorite superheroes involved (including Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) has totally brought their A- game for this Last Hoorah, as the acting across the board, is the best it’s ever been.  Anthony and Joe Russo should be receiving accolades galore for the way they developed the most exciting MARVEL creation yet, as you find yourself watching in anticipation to see if our lost Superhero friends will able to make a triumphant return, or if our friends that Thanos spared in Infinity War, have met with their final destiny too.  And please don’t let the 3 hours+ scare you off from catching this film, repeatedly, at a theater near you, as I can attest that once this film starts, its seems like no time at all has passed, as you become mesmerized by the powerful intenseness of what is happening right before your very eyes…

Never in my wildest dreams had I imaged that a Marvel movie would bring me to tears, but, yep, you guessed it, as film even managed to make me sob like a little school girl, before it was through.  Make no mistake, AVENGERS: END GAME will be the BLOCKBUSTER of the SUMMER, it may even become the BLOCKBUSTER of 2019, as I don’t even think the next STAR WARS installment, can put a dent in what you are about to see.  This truly is one of those very special film experiences that you will keep with you for a very, very long time….

And, now that I shared my thoughts, it’s no surprise that, I rate AVENGERS: END GAME a MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN, and suggest that you do this numerous times over!!!

Kathy vs. TK’s Review of CAPTAIN MARVEL – Rated PG-13

This Review is brought to you by Kathy Kaiser and contains NO SPOILERS

CAPTAIN MARVEL – Rated PG-13 – 2 hrs. 4 mins.

DIRECTORS:  Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck

WRITERS:  Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet

STARRING:  Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn, Annette Bening and Clark Gregg

As we venture back to a Marvel prequel, circa 1990’s, we meet Vers (Brie Larson), who arrives on earth as a Kree warrior, although she seems to have intense feelings and flashbacks, pointing towards Earth is where she has belonged all along. When she mounts her attack against the alien, shapeshifting Skrull leader Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), it seems that S.H.I.E.L.D. officer Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is going to come along for this joy ride, as he is convinced that Vers may be the long-vanished Air Force Pilot Carol Danvers, but with some newly acquired strength and abilities, that no normal human has ever possessed before.  When Danvers former alien mentor Yon-Rogg (Jude Law) brings his fellow aliens down to earth to set things straight with her, and the Skrulls too, it seems that Earth is about to be caught in the crosshairs of an alien war, unless Captain Marvel can access here extreme powers, to save her friends, and the rest of us too…

I give CAPTAIN MARVEL a rating between MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN and WAIT AND CATCH THIS MARVEL FILM ON DVD.  Now regardless of what I am about to share, if you are a Marvel fanatic, and wait with bated breath for the next film to arrive each and every time, then who am I to tell you not to run to your nearest theater to catch this next installment.  But, with that said, I was saddened by the fact that even though I enjoyed Larson as the most powerful superhero, male or female, like EVER…I was not as enamored by the mediocrity I felt about of this film as a whole.  It’s sad really, that Marvel films have taken us to such incredible heights with their storylines, and intense, well casted characters, that keeping up the momentum, and increased greatness that we are anticipating with each new release, literally cannot be achieved indefinitely.  So even though this film isn’t bad, and Larson’s attempt at given a realness to this female superhero should be mentioned, CAPTAIN MARVEL not only didn’t WOW me, it just felt like it was a means to an end, giving us the forum to get Captain Marvel into the AVENGERS: End Game Saga, which will be bittersweet at best come April. I also must convey, that CAPTAIN MARVEL doesn’t come close to the excitement, thrills and kick-ass badness of Gal Gadot’s portrayal in 2017’s WONDER WOMAN either, which actually saddened me a little bit too.  I must also share that Jackson, Gregg and Mendelsohn’s performances were okay too along the way, and Law’s portrayal of “is he good or not” Yon Rogg Character played out well too, but I just didn’t love this installment, no matter how hard I tried.  So, with that conveyed, like I stated earlier, if MARVEL’s your deal then please, you aren’t going to be happy until you go see CAPTAIN MARVEL on the big screen, so better get a move on…but if you aren’t that enamored with Marvel’s super hero reign, and you aren’t in any hurry to drop your cold hard cash to catch Brie Larson in action, I suggest you wait and catch CAPTAIN MARVEL on DVD when its released; just make a point to definitely see it before you venture to out to see AVENGERS: End Game when it hits on April 26, 2019.

***And lest me not forget to share that in typical MARVEL FASHION, there are two post credit scenes with this film, so get ready to sit tight and settle in for a while once this film comes to an end, as you don’t want to miss the set-ups for AVENGERS: END GAME, if you leave the theater too soon…

This humble opinion is brought to by you T. K. Edwards

CAPTAIN MARVEL  – Rated PG-13  – 2 hr. 4 mins

Director by:  Ryan Fleck & Anna Boden

Cast:  Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Jude Law, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Annette Bening, Clark Gregg

Carol Danvers becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.

Right off the bat, I’m going to tell you to see this movie in theaters because I am a huge fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and in my humble opinion the only way to truly appreciate them is to go to the theater and see each & every one on the big screen.  Now…that being said, CAPTAIN MARVEL is not the MCU’s strongest film, but it’s not their weakest either. It certainly is a great introduction to a character that most of us are not as familiar with as let’s say Spiderman or The Incredible Hulk. Captain Marvel is definitely deserving of her own movie and I am so happy in the direction Marvel is now taking its audience.  Their stories are becoming more adventurous and sci-fi, but at the same time each one is being recognized as a serious film and not some sort of goofy piece of movie fluff. If you need proof of this all you need to do is take a look at the cast of each of these films. Amazing actors are bending over backwards to be in these tremendous stories and that makes comic book movies more than just a “fad”.  A certain famous director (which shall remain nameless – but I can tell you he is NOT a fan of Netflix movies winning Oscars) has been quoted as saying comic book movies are going to fade off into the sunset just like the Western genre has and my response to that is…”umm, no they’re not!” Comic book movies are here to stay and the MCU will continue making more because these stories are not only relevant, but they also can be so much more than just a person in a cape.  Look at what BLACK PANTHER accomplished! A comic book movie with a story that is entirely personal to the director, but also connected to a larger film universe. What Marvel has done is unprecedented and cannot be copied. CAPTAIN MARVEL is a perfect example of how the Marvel Cinematic Universe will continue to make terrific films, to take chances on characters they believe to be special and to show all the “naysayers” out there that comic book movies are here to stay.  Until next time, thanks for reading.

P.S. – There are 2 post credit scenes.  Make sure you wait until after all the credits have rolled before you leave the theater.  You’re welcome! Oh and this movie has the best cameo I have seen in all of the MCU films to date.  Movies buffs like me will understand why I love it so much. LMAO. Keep a very sharp eye.

Kathy vs. T.K’s View of ANT MAN and the WASP – Rated PG-13

Ant Man and the wasp

ANT MAN and the WASP – Rated PG-13 – 1 hr. 58 mins.

DIRECTOR:  Peyton Reed

WRITERS:  Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, Paul Rudd, Andrew Barrer, Gabriel Ferrari

STARRING:  Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Pena, Michelle Pfeiffer, Judy Greer, Bobby Cannavale, Hannah John-Kamen and Abby Ryder Fortson

As we venture back into the world of ANT MAN/a.k.a. Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), it seems that he is still on house arrest from his missteps with Captain America, a couple years back…

Enjoying family life with his daughter Cassie (Abby Ryder Fortson), Scott can’t wait till he is free  to take on this fatherhood thing back into the outside world.  But it seems that Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and his beautiful daughter Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) are going to have to change Scott’s plans, as he is an integral part of their next mission, as they can’t seem to find a way to accomplish their operation without him…

I give ANT MAN and the WASP a rating of MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN:  Rudd’s endearing persona and charm are even more perfect as ANT MAN this time around, as his quest to be the perfect dad, and his feelings for Hope continue to evolve through every frame of this film ~ Plus, regardless if he’s BIG OR SMALL~Ant Man manages to DO IT ALL! Lilly is also absolutely fabulous all along the way as well, taking on a more significant role as the WASP, bringing to life the superhero partner that Ant Man can’t manage to function without.  And Douglas, Pena, T.I., Greer and Cannavale were also perfect this time around too, bringing back the magic of their characters from the original ANT MAN (2015), while adding the perfect cohesion to this film, every step of the way.

Add in the fabulous additions of Fishburne, John-Kamen, and Pfeiffer, playing Janet van Dyne to the storyline, and you have one absolutely marvelous film, leading the continuation of the MARVEL UNIVERSE into hyperdrive…

So, stay out of the summer heat this weekend and go catch ANT MAN and the WASP at a theater near you!  Rudd and Lilly are the perfect dynamic duo to make all your SUMMER MOVIE DREAMS come true! And don’t forget to stay until all the credits are over yet again… as the last frame of this one is as integral as it gets…

BLACK PANTHER – Rated PG-13 – 2 hrs. 14 mins.

BLACK PANTHER – Rated PG-13 – 2 hrs. 14 mins.

Director: Ryan Coogler

Starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Sterling K. Brown, Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis, Winston Duke and John Kani

As we venture from the streets of Cali to the beautifully breathtaking world of Wakanda, we meet T’Challa/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), about to take over the throne after his father T’Chaka’s (John Kani) untimely death.  As the tribes of Wakanda come forth to approve this coronation, it seems that TChaka’s first love, the breathtakingly beautiful Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) has returned home to witness this grand ritual first hand.

With the New King now in his rightful place, his sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) is working away in the high-tech world in which they all flourish, while General Okoye (Danai Gurira), and her army are keeping the King, and Wakanda, safe from the outside world…

When outsider Erik Killmonger (Michael B Jordan) shows up to renounce T’Challa’s rights to the throne…it seems that the people of Wakanda are going to be forced to take sides.  Now, as T’Challa and Erik’s rivalry starts a tumultuous existence that no one within Wakanda is prepared for, it seems that the ancestral existence of the smartest and bravest of humankind, is about to be turned upside down…

I give BLACK PANTHER a rating of MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN:  As Marvel movies have gone over the past few years, this film, and its ancestral significant storyline, was a pleasant release from the forced comedy and team bonding mentality of the last few films.  Boseman is superbly cast as Black Panther, as his commanding performance is exquisite throughout this entire film.  Jordan’s performance was just as imposing, as he plays outsider Erik Killmonger.  And the brilliant casting of Nyong’o, Bassett and Gurira, as the incredibly beautiful, and powerful women in Black Panther’s life, was marvelous as well .  I mean the only insignificant flaw for me throughout the entire film was the few frames of substandard CGI that caught my eye.  But, beyond that glitch in the cinematography of this film, everything else was absolutely perfectly orchestrated throughout, including its magnificent soundtrack.   I even enjoyed the smaller roles on screen performed by Brown, Whitaker and Kaluuya in this film too…leading me to suggest that even if you aren’t a big fan of MARVEL characters (I’m sure there are one or two of you out there 😉 ) or if you weren’t fond some of the past films this decade, you must head out to a theater near you to see BLACK PANTHER, as he is one smooth cat (pun intended), that you absolutely don’t want to miss experiencing on the big screen, at a theater near you ~ and don’t forget to stay to the last frame passes by…so you’re ready for the next installment 🙂
