HITMAN’S WIFE’S BODYGUARD – Rated R – 1 hr. 39 mins.
DIRECTOR: Patrick Hughes
WRITERS: Tom O’Connor, Brandon Murphy, Phillip Murphy
STARRING: Ryan Reynolds, Salma Hayek, Samuel L. Jackson, Frank Grillo, Antonio Banderas, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman
Well, it’s been 4 years since the last adventure ensued between assassin Darius Kincaid (Samuel L Jackson), his lovely wife Sonia (Salma Hayek), and bodyguard extraordinaire, Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds), and as fate would have it, their paths are about to cross again in this very entertaining sequel.
And as sequels go, this one isn’t the worst I’ve ever seen, by far, as we find Sonia in search of Darius, who has vanished, and who else can help her find her man, but the used to be AAA-rated Michael Bryce! Now, as Sonia and Michael hit the town in search of Darius, it seems that Interpol Agent Bobby O’Neill (Frank Grillo) is in search of this trio too, as he needs their services in bringing down bad boy Aristotle Papadopolous.
Now, with no choice but to work together to help Agent O’Neill, and as they begin to bond even more than last time they were all forced together, it seems that whether they want to admit it, or not, they must support one another to take down Aristotle, and maybe find their very own “happily ever after” too!

I give HITMAN’S WIFE’s BODYGUARD a rating between MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN or WAIT AND CATCH THIS ONE ON DVD or STREAMING / 4 Stars: Entertaining from start to finish, and with a storyline that, as much as I tried not to, I totally bought into it till the very end, HITMAN’S WIFE’S BODYGUARD was the laugh a minute, action packed comedy, I was looking forward to. Reynolds is fabulous reprising his role as Michael Bryce, and with a few twists and turns to his personal life, I was ever so happy to see him back on the big screen. I also enjoyed within this sequel, that Sonia, aka Salma Hayek was totally calling the shots, as I think her casting in this total kickass role again, just like in the first film, is sheer perfection! I mean, who else can wear stacked heels so that she appears to be taller than she really is, and still manage to kick ass all the way through this film but her! I also enjoyed Samuel L Jackson back as Darius Kincaid, as the perfect chemistry between him, Hayek and Reynolds was just as enjoyable to view this time around too. I also loved the perfect cameos strewn throughout this film along the way as well! So, with all this entertainment value that I just explained built in, why am I not rating this one a must see on the big screen? It’s just a few little things that happened along the way that affected this outcome – like how many times can our trio face the bad guys, and sharp shooters at that, and still make it out alive? Or how do you make action scenes, in an action film mind you, that seem to play out toooooooo long, and at times seem almost unnecessary? Well, that’s one of the questions I was asking myself, as I watched this film at the screening. And even as superb as the storyline line is throughout almost the entire film, the cheesy ending that I saw coming a mile away, ending up taking away from this film, once it was all said and done. Bottom line is, HITMAN’S WIFE’S BODYGUARD is definitely fun to watch, especially if you enjoyed the 1st film as much as I did. Just know going in that as sequels go, it’s good, it’s just not so good that I must insist that you catch it on the big screen, at a theater near you.
