As we venture into the formative years of Reginald Dwight’s, aka Elton John’s (Taron Egerton) life, it seems that his home life is a complete mess, although his talent from a young age it seems, is absolutely stupendous.

When Reggie manages to meet the incomparable song writer Bernie Taupin (Jamie Bell), Elton

better buckle in, because when he puts Taupin’s lyrics with his incredible scores, the sky is the limit for their creative undertakings, and Elton’s skyrocketing career…

I give ROCKETMAN a rating of MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN!  Can you say Musical Masterpiece?  Yep, that’s right, as this Biopic told through the songs of one of the most creative musical teams in history, ending up being exactly what I wished for…and SO MUCH MORE…having seen Elton John in person three times throughout my own life time! Egerton is phenomenal playing the multi-talented, yet very insecure Elton John – as he shares the sad, tumultuous and estranged relationships that Elton endured from not only  his father and mother, but at the hands of all the booze, drugs, and his less than loving male companions which all consumed a large portion of his life.  I was also very intrigued by the way that this story unfolds on screen ~ as it switches back and forth from being a musical one minute, to being a dramatic, and sometimes somber portrayal of a significant time in the rise, fall, and eventual rise again of one of the greatest showmen of all time!  Bell’s performance as Elton’s “right hand guy” at the start of his career, and again many years later, was sheer perfection as well, bringing to light the significance they both had, in each other’s lives.  And when you add in the exceptional performances throughout by Dallas Bryce Howard, Richard Madden, and the small, but poignant role played by Tate Donovan too, you end up with one incredibly entertaining film, that you must view on the biggest screen, with the biggest sound system you can find!  Having loved Elton’s music for as long as I can remember, I was so engrossed in this film, and its musically profound storytelling, that I wanted nothing more than to break out in song, many, many times before it was through.  If you enjoyed last year’s Bohemian Rhapsody as much as I did, then this film is a definite must see for you too, as this true story will resonate with you in the same way! But I must share too, that I wasn’t quite as blown away by ROCKETMAN as I was BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY ~ even though both stand out as fabulous entertaining films for me, every step of the way.  All in all, if you love Elton’s music, and want to experience how he went from child prodigy, to the Royal Academy of Music, to becoming one of the most incredible performers of all time, then you have to see venture out to see ROCKETMAN at a theater near you this weekend, so that you too can experience the sheer joy that this will film will bring to your life!!!
