“We all get there together, or we don’t get there at all…”
HIDDEN FIGURES – Rated PG – 127 mins.
Starring Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monae’, Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons and Glen Powell
Based on the real-life story of African American women Katherine G. Johnson, Dorothy Vaughn and Mary Jackson… and how their significant contributions to the team at NASA helped to send a man into space…THIS IS HIDDEN FIGURES!
As we meet the incomparable math genius since grade school, Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), she is making her way to her job at NASA with fellow highly intelligent friends Dorothy Vaughn (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monae’).
Stuck in the West Computing Wing of NASA – Our heroin’s dream of opportunities outside their present, low level positions. When Mary gets the chance to become a part of the Engineering division, her mind is opened up to the possibility of striving to become the first woman Engineer at NASA. When an expert in mathematics is needed to assist in the computations to get John Glenn (Glen Powell) into space, and back again, there is no better choice, male or female, within the NASA program to take on this position than Genius Katherine G. Johnson. And even though she has been performing in a supervisory capacity, and leading her entire team day after day, it seems that Dorothy Vaughn (Octavia Spencer) is going to have to prove just how much supervisory material she has, as she embarks on bringing to life NASA’s new IBM computer…
As these ladies fight against the prejudice, racism and gender inequality of this era in our countries history, they find the strength to not only persevere in these harsh, cruel times, but to also prove they are amongst the greatest women in our countries history, one mathematical equation at a time…
I give HIDDEN FIGURES a rating of MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN! Having had the opportunity to screen this film prior to its local screening, I can tell you this is one film that you definitely HAVE TO SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN, as seeing it on DVD just didn’t do it justice. From the exquisite cinematography, to the developing intertwined storylines, to the opportunity to experience real footage from the actual launches that these ladies helped to facilitate – each and every minute of this film is absolutely spectacular!!! And talk about perfect casting throughout ~ there is not a role in this film that was miscast in my eyes – as everyone’s performance throughout is sheer perfection ~ including Costner Parsons, and Powell’s contributions too! Whether you are 8 or 98, you have to see and experience HIDDEN FIGURES at a theater near you this weekend! This film brings to life the lives of these truly incredible African American women, thus proving that there are probably many more stories of true female heroins lost in the midst of our countries past, just waiting to be told…
