THE MAN WHO KNEW INFINITY ~ Rated PG-13

Starring Jeremy Irons and Dev Patel

Based on Robert Kanigel’s book by same name – we venture into the real-life drama of mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan (Dev Patel), the self-taught mathematical genius from India, who against his mother’s wishes, and his wife’s too, ventures to join his fellow colleagues at Cambridge University to prove his mathematical genius worthy of publication.

Caught up in the world of academia, and finding himself nowhere closer to his ultimate goal than he was in India, Ramanujan finds solace and friendship under the guidance of Professor, and fellow mathematical genius G.H. Hardy. (Jeremy Irons).

As Ramanujan produces theory after theory to prove the true genius he really is, his instructors and fellow students aren’t sure if he really is the smartest guy on earth, or just an arrogant fraud…

Home sick and feeling under the weather to boot, Ramanujan must decide if it’s best to stay in England while World War I is raging on, or forget proving himself to those who question his theories at Cambridge, and return home to the woman he loves…

I give THE MAN WHO KNEW INFINITY a rating of MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN ~ Coming from a person who enjoys math on an accounting level, and nothing more, I was truly mesmerized by the visual and intellectual magnitude of this film. It has been a while since I have had the opportunity to view such a powerful true-life story ~ as THE MAN WHO KNEW INFINITY very eloquently portrays the life, times and struggles Ramanujan faces his whole life, just from being the genius was born to be. Patel is absolutely superb is this role, and Irons is fabulous too, playing Hardy, Ramanujan’s mentor and friend, and the only man at Cambridge who understands his true genius, yet is compelled to stifle him for his own good, until he finally realizes that a mind with such infinite power, should be left to run in any direction it chooses to go. If you love biographical films, with superb acting and a story for the ages, then THE MAN WHO KNEW INFINITY should definitely be your choice for what to catch on the big screen this weekend!
