THE OLD GUARD – Presently playing on NETFLIX – Rated R – 2 hrs. 5 mins.

Do you love action?  Would you love the thought of being immortal for centuries? Incredible concept, right! And the fabulous film team at Netflix has taken it upon themselves to produce an action packed thriller – based on a graphic novel series by Greg Rucka, who also wrote the screenplay ~  creating an intense, and rather thought provoking film, as these immortals set out to protect those who are destined to change the world, thus allowing them to fulfil their destiny, and not meet with their demise…

Then when you cast as your lead in the film, Academy Award winning actress Charlize Theron, who is as beautiful as she is talented, (and in my estimation holds the title of “Action Maven” for this decade, also flexing her moves, and her muscles in films like ATOMIC BLONDE (2017), FAST AND FURIOUS 8 (2017) & MAD MAX – FURY ROAD (2015), just to name a few… ) then alas you have set your sites on making a film that not only transcends centuries of time, but manages to keep viewers on the edge of their seats too, even if it’s just on the edge on your sofas at home, which many movie-lovers seem to prefer these days, since we can’t head out to the theater anyway…

And to keep the excitement going, besides Theron playing Andy, the boss of our little merry band of mercenaries, we acquire a brand new member, Nile (played by Kiki Lane), and the old tried and true members have joined up forces with Andy again too, including Booker (played by Matthias Schoenaerts), Joe (played by Marwan Kenzari) and Nicky (Played by Luca Marinelli).  And to round out the superb cast, Netflix snagged none other than the incredibly talented Chiwetel Ejiofor, to play one of their friends/ nemesis along the way too…

So, with all this star power and action-packed thrills going on in one film, what did I rate this latest studio release from Netflix? 

I rate THE OLD GUARD “A MUST SEE on your TV”, as between the thrills throughout,, and the fabulous cast they put into place, this storyline really holds up to the “test of time”!  THE OLD GUARD is filled with enough excitement and intrigue, that you want to follow along the path of these mercenaries, every step of the way, just to see what happens next!  And you’ll also find as this film reaches its final destination, you’ll be asking, “is this the end?”  Well, I guess you’ll have to watch, and decide for yourself, if this film just might be the beginning of the next really cool series to hit on Netflix!
