 GREEN BOOK– Rated PG-13 – 2 h 10 min

DIRECTOR:  Peter Farrelly

WRITERS:  Nick Vallelonga, Brian Hays Currie, Peter Farrelly

STARRING:  Viggo Mortensen, Mahershala Ali, and Linda Cardellini

Based on a true story, we meet Italian born and bred bouncer Tony Lip (Viggo Mortensen), trying to make ends meet for his family, when he’s abruptly out of work…

When a friend informs him of a new job opportunity – being the driver for Dr. Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali), a piano virtuoso who is planning on traveling the Midwest and Deep South for the next few months – Tony jumps at the opportunity to keep his family a float, although he’s not been too fond of others of Dr. Shirley’s race in the past…

As Tony and Don find themselves easing into one another’s very different lifestyles…it seems that their best, and their worst traits are coming to the surface throughout their cross-country road trip.  But, now with most of their flaws exposed, these two very different men find themselves forging a very unconventional, yet exceptional, life-long friendship…

I give GREEN BOOK a rating of MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN!  Talk about one of 2018’s most exceptional films…GREEN BOOK is not only nostalgic and emotionally charged, but its images, and storyline will entrance you throughout this entire film.  Mortensen is exceptional playing the driver, and more importantly, the security detail for Dr. Shirley.  Ali is also very well cast as the prim, proper, and not seeming to fit in anywhere musician, in search of something real, in his self obsessed world of access and uncertainty.  Watching this true-life story play out amidst all the racism of the 60’s, was at times uncomfortable to view, but the magic that happens, despite this discord, is not only entertaining, but rather magical to say the least.  And the addition of Tony’s wife, played by Linda Cardellini, who manages to bring a much-needed dimension to this film with her perfect portrayal,  that keeps the entire storyline flowing quite effortlessly.  If you enjoy Real-life-stories as much as I do, then you have to head to a theater near you this weekend, and catch  GREEN BOOK! And if not this weekend, please make a point to check it out before the Golden Globes and Oscars are announced, because I won’t be surprised if either or both Ali and Mortensen are going to be nominated for their exceptional performances throughout every inch of this film…
