The backdrop is the streets of LA, as the LA County Sheriff’s Department comes face to face with the state’s most notorious bank robbery crew, having apparently pulled off heists for years all throughout CA. Enter law enforcement Agent “BIG NICK” Flanagan (Gerard Butler) and his group of fellow elite crime stoppers, to find out who is running these heists, and to try to figure out how to take them out! But when the elite team of professional bank robbers, including Merriman (Pablo Schreiber), young driver Donnie (O’Shea Jackson Jr.) and bad dude Levi Enson (Curtis ’50 Cent” Jackson) set their eyes on pulling off the most elaborate heist LA has ever seen – robbing the “always on lock down” Federal Reserve bank…it seems it going to take LA’s finest and then some, to bring down this crew of bad boys to justice…
I give DEN OF THIEVES a rating of MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN: Butler is perfectly cast as Lead Agent “BIG NICK” Flanagan, as this particular role is his best casting thus far, allowing us to see the tougher and softer sides of his persona. Young O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Ice Cube’s eldest son) manages to flex even more of his acting chops in this film too, since we last caught him impersonating his father in the 2015 Biopic STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON. Round out this storyline with the superb acting of Schreiber, Andrews, Jones and 50 Cent, and you have an action backed thriller that’s sure to please. Even my husband and youngest daughter’s boyfriend thought this film was definitely one of the best action movies they have seen in quite a while, sharing that the real action, and car scenes were refreshing… (NO CGI Here)! From its multitude of twists and turns in the storyline and the most incredible ending I didn’t see coming AT ALL ~ DEN OF THIEVES is definitely one of those MUST-SEE FILMS that you have to catch this weekend at a theater near you. Suffice to say, Butler is on fire, and Jackson Jr. definitely shows he’s got what it takes to be an action star, for many years to come…
