We have not seen Jackie Chan in an English-language flick for a few years now.  Yes, we have heard his voice in many animated flicks, but no Chan action.  He has been in China for a few years making some great flicks.  While I was excited to see a new English Chan flick, I was a little disappointed; there was no huge dangerous stunt, or amazing Chan choreography that we all love.  With this being said, this is still a decent thriller, directed by Martin Campbell.

Chan is a single father who is residing in Britain where an event happens that causes the death of his 17 year old daughter.  This causes him to show up at the police station every day, just for a little hope of finding who was behind the event.  This leads him to Liam Hennessy (Pierce Brosnan) a former IRA member turned Political agent of Northern Ireland in charge of keeping the peace.  Quan (Chan) is also persistent with Liam, but when Liam pushes Quan, Quan really pushes back.

This flick is taken from a Stephen Leather novel entitled The Chinaman.  There are many twists and turns throughout the flick, but all you can really see coming.  If you don’t, you have not been to many flicks.  The main problem I had with the flick is there is not a whole lot of action.  Chan is involved in some great fights, and I always love seeing traps kill or harm people, but when I go see a Chan flick I am hoping for a little more action.

Chan does do an amazing job he really captures what it means to be a vigilante.  He isn’t he happy smirking self we are used to see in American films.  He does do a great job when he does fight you can hardly tell he is in his 60’s.  If you remember these actors from the 90’s you will love this thriller.

I enjoyed the flick I grade it a solid B.  This reminds me of some of the great action flicks of the 90’s, if you liked them, you will enjoy The Foreigner.
