KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE – Rated R – 2 hrs. 21 mins.
Starring Taron Egerton, Edward Holcroft, Mark Strong, Jeff Bridges, Colin Firth and Channing Tatum
Writer and Director Matthew Vaughn (KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE, X-MEN: FIRST CLASS) takes us down the path to a place no Kingsman dare to think they would travel….as they find themselves fighting against an unruly sort of foe – one with beauty and brains – the infamous Poppy (Julianne Moore) and her covert drug cartel operation…
When Poppy sees to practically obliterate the entire Kingsman organization from this earth…Eggsy and Merlin set out to seek & hire a few more “good guys” to help save the world, when they happen upon a US based secret service organization, rivaling their own, known asThe Statesman.
Confused by this finding, but happy to be in the company of fellow comrades, working to save us all ~ including boss Champ (Jeff Bridges) and Mr. Cowboy himself, Tequila (Channing Tatum), It seems there is a blast from the past living in the Statesman’s compound too – as Harry (Colin Firth) is alive and well, but not exactly the Harry Hart that Eggsy and Merlin remember…
As Poppy continues down her slippery slope of infesting our world with her drug laden schemes… it seems its going to take the Kingsman and the Statesman, along with operations specialist Ginger (Halle Berry) as well, to save both organizations, and the world, from being overtaken by this mad woman…
I give KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE a rating between MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN and WAIT AND CATCH THIS FILM ON DVD: I knew going in with as much as I loved the original film, the sequel was going to have to blow me away…which it sadly did not. Egerton is fabulous reprising his role as Eggsy, and this time with a heart the size of Texas too, but sadly Strong gets just mere pitons to perform this time around. Seeing Firth back in action did bring a smile to my face, and Tatum’s performance, although not as big as I was hoping…does lead rather nicely into the next installment, which has already been approved. If you enjoyed the 1st installment, then by all means, head out to a theater near you to catch Eggsy, Merlin and Harry in action…and all the Statesman too, but if you are hoping for something that will outplay the original in any way….think again…as KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRLE is quite entertaining, but not as over the top exciting as the original…and I’ll leave it at that J
