BAYWATCH – Rated R – 1 hr. 56 mins.
Starring Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Ilfenesh Hadera, Priyanka Chopra, Kelly Rohrbach and Jon Bass
Well, If you enjoyed the films FOUR CHRISTMASES, HORRIBLE BOSSES, or IDENTITY THEIF, which were all directed by Seth Gordon too…or if you couldn’t wait to catch the series this hilarious film was based off of…then get ready to enjoy an extremely enjoyable who done it as these sexy swimsuit clad detectives aren’t stopping till they find out…this is BAYWATCH!
As we meet the super-sexy Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson), he is flexing his muscles to keep the waters and beach of the Bay safe. When a new recruit by the name of Matt Brody (Zac Efron) is sent to join HIS TEAM, things don’t go as either of them had planned from the very beginning…
When drugs start to arrive on the beach soon after the arrival of new business owner Victoria Leeds (Priyana Chopra), Buchannon and his team of elite lifeguards must go undercover to find out who is the apparent drug lord of the bay, so they can make sure to send them back to wherever they came from!!!
I give BAYWATCH a rating between MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN & WAIT AND CATCH THIS FILM ON DVD – First let me share that this film, based on the popular television series of the 90’s, ended up being a lot funnier than I ever anticipated it would be going in. The constantly making fun of its own content from the TV show never got old, plus Johnson brings his suave to the big screen in a BIG WAY yet again, being the stabilizing force for this film as it unfolds. Efron manages to go toe-to-toe with the big guy as well, flexing his acting chops and comedic timing along with those impeccable pecs he owns. Daddario, Hadera, Chopra and Rohrbach also hold their own as the “lovely ladies” of the beach, bringing much delight just like the ladies in red from yesteryear! And talk about hilariously goofy, yet charmingly real…Bass makes a splash in a big way, with his comic relief throughout most of this film. And for the parents out there wondering if their children under 17 will be perfectly fine viewing this film, even with its R-rating, well…I would say NOT, as this is NOT the BAYWATCH you remember, because this one has lots of more exposed, with totally raunchy adult humor throughout too 😉
So, if you were one of those television viewers who couldn’t miss a minute of those red swimsuits and slow-motion photography, then definitely head out to a theater near you this weekend to catch this extremely funny and raunchy flick. But, if you weren’t enamored with Pamela Anderson’s bosom or David Hasselhoff’s smooth moves back in the day, then I suggest instead that you might want to wait and catch this one when it pops on DVD, a few short weeks from now.
