ASSASSIN’S CREED – Rated PG-13 – 115 Minutes
Starring Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson
Fresh off directing leading man Michael Fassbender in last year’s Shakespearian drama Macbeth, Justin Kurzel assists Fassbender in channeling his genetically predisposed Assassin roots this time around…this is ASSASSIN’S CREED!
As we meet prisoner Cal Lynch (Michael Fassbender), he is about to pay with his life for his past indiscretions. Saved from death by Scientist Sofia (Marion Cotillard), Cal is forced to face his greatest challenge yet, channeling his ancestor Aguilar to retrieve an artifact that Templar head Rikkin (Jeremy Irons) must possess…
Even though the constant mind travel is taking it’s toll on Cal, channeling Aguilar and the world of his ASSASSIN’S CREED ancestors is building new life and spirit within his soul….thus forging n a bond between the past, and the present …that he cannot deny…
I give ASSASIN’S CREED a rating between MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN and WAIT AND CATCH THIS FILM ON DVD ~ Fassbender is superb as the Assassin Cal. Cotillard and Irons are also perfectly cast in their very caring and dastardly demonic roles, respectively. And the 15th Century scenes and sequences throughout this film are what legends are made of…so why the in-between Review? First off, never having played the video game this movie is based off of, I had no point of reference going in. And even though I enjoyed this film so much more than I was anticipating, I still felt as if it needed something MORE in the storyline, or in the cinematography for me to make it a true MUST SEE. But, if you enjoy playing the video game, or if you enjoy any of the perfectly cast stars, then you most definitely have to set out for a theater near you this weekend to see it. But if you are like me, and Mid-evil war one minute, and 21st century craziness the next isn’t exactly your deal, then you can wait and catch this film on DVD in a few weeks, with a bunch of your comrades there with you, ready to take it all in!!!
