Who doesn’t love their Grandfather, right?  But how much would you love him, if he moved into your house, and took over your room?  Well, you are about to find out in THE WAR WITH GRANDPA!

After the loss of Grandma, new widower Grandpa Ed (Robert De Niro), is asked to move into his daughter Sally’s (Uma Thurman) home, much to the dismay of her son Peter (Oakes Fegley), since he is the one that is going to have to sacrifice the most, moving upstairs and giving up his most-prized possession, his room!  And even though it’s pretty cool having his Grandfather now under the same roof, Peter’s friends have convinced him that he doesn’t have to take this “new way of life” sitting down, convincing him that he needs to stand his ground and declare WAR on this old fart that has invaded his space!  But declaring War on someone that has not only been in a real war, but who has also been around the block a time or two in his last 70+ years, and who’s buddies Danny (Cheech Marin) and Jerry (Christopher Walken) are in his corner to fight back too, might just be biting off more than an average 12 -year old can chew.  So as Peter and Grandpa continue to wage war on one another, with neither side wanting to concede, it seems that the rest of the family is going to have to be drug through all the mischief and mayhem along the way too, including Dad Arthur (Rob Riggle), and big sister Mia (Laura Marano), and little sister Jennifer (Poppy Gagnon), before the eminent cease-fire can commence…

I give THE WAR WITH GRANDPA a rating between MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN or WAIT AND CATCH THIS ONE on DVD!   Stacked with a fabulous cast, and a storyline that’s perfect for everyone to view, THE WAR ON GRANDPA is packed full of comedic scenes that ended up playing out a lot funnier than I was ever expecting them to, as this film brings the comedy, and levity that we have all needed brought into the lives, over for the past 6 months ~ as it just makes the heart feel good!  De Niro is of course perfect as the Grandfather, who is going to go along with his grandson’s War games, even though he does set out to teach him some very important life lessons along the way too! And if you saw and enjoyed De Niro playing another Grandfather figure in 2016’s Dirty Grandpa, but don’t want your children to be subjected to “that type of humor”, you can put your mind at ease, because this is a whole different Grandfatherly role entirely! Oakes Fegley is also fantastic as the middle-schooler who loves his grandpa, but just needs “his space” back, no matter what the cost!  And then when you bring in Uma Thurman and Rob Riggle as the “parental figures”, and adorable Poppy Gagnon to play Peter’s little sister, you end up with a hilarious film that does end up being just as predictable as you think it may be from the Trailer, but one that is still hilariously perfect for your entire family to view, at a theater near you!  That is, if you are comfortable with heading out to a theater yet, with your entire family in tow.  Just know that if you are, this is the perfect family movie that will keep your brood laughing the entire time, and if you aren’t, then I definitely suggest picking this one up on DVD when it hits during the upcoming Holiday season, or shortly their after, as this is one film that especially your sons, or grandsons, will want to view again, and again, as it’s not too long, and for “the guys in your life”, the humor in this film, is totally spot on!
